RoboTale – when robots tell stories at the hospital
Over the past year, CCR has developed and tested RoboTale – an interactive storyteller robot for children in the hospital.
RoboTale uses artificial intelligence to create imaginative stories in dialogue with the child. The robot inquires about the child's interests and creates a personal story - thus providing a safe and engaging experience in the middle of a hospital stay.
In the spring of 2025, several tests were carried out and completed in the children's ward, which gave rise to curious questions and great feedback from children and parents. RoboTale has also attracted great interest at events such as the Robot & Science Festival in Odense.
More funding has been sought for the next phase in the hope of being able to further develop an even more sensory-stimulating and hospital-friendly platform that combines speech, touch, gestures and visual recognition, incorporated with interactive games.
The project is anchored at the Hans Christian Andersen Hospital for Children and Adolescents and carried out in close collaboration with CAI-X and SDU Robotics.
Thank you to all the children, families and clinicians who have made this possible - we look forward to the next chapter in RoboTale.
