Prøvsen
The Hans Christian Andersen Hospital for Children and Adolescents at Odense University Hospital (OUH) is located at a considerable distance from the Department Of Clinical Biochemistry, where patient samples are analysed.
PROJECT PERIOD
Start: Summer 2022
End: January 2023
It is currently not possible to send the samples with the pneumatic tube system at the Hans Christian Andersen Hospital for Children and Adolescents at Odense University Hospital. Therefore, service assistants have previously spent around two hours a day transporting samples from the outpatient clinic and hospital for analysis in the laboratory.
AIM
The aim of the robot Prøvsen was to free up the staff's time for more patient-related tasks by taking over the transport of samples.
Prøvsen is based on experiences from the robot HUBOT, which solves a similar purpose at Odense University Hospital.
RESULTS
Prøvsen is an Autonomous Mobile Robot (AMR), which can drive among patients, staff, bed transports, garbage trucks, etc. The route is 400 metres and passes through the lobby and past the hospital's kiosk.
On busy days, Prøvsen drives more than 8.5 kilometres – thereby saving service assistants a lot of time.
Previously, parents and children also had to wait for the samples to be collected by a service assistant, but now, the samples can be sent immediately by the bioanalyst. Thus, the robot also minimises the waiting time for patients and relatives.
PARTNERS
Prøvsen was developed and implemented in a collaboration between the Hans Christian Andersen Hospital for Children and Adolescents, the Department Of Clinical Biochemistry and the Centre for Clinical Robotics (CCR) at OUH.
FUNDING
The project is internally funded and implemented through CCR's Alpha Partner Agreement with Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR).
The robot was named Prøvsen after a competition held on OUH's Facebook page.
