REACT Telepresence Robot

REalizing Affordable and safe autonomous navigation for telepresenCe coboTs.

PROJECT PERIOD

Start: 15 November 2020
End: August 2021

A telepresence robot is a robot for virtual presence. A telepresence robot makes it possible to participate virtually in a consultation/ward round for doctors by the means of a large touch screen mounted on a robot that can be controlled by the person who is not present.

AIM

The purpose of the project is to further develop the current GoBe telepresence cobots to be able to move autonomously (self-driving) around the hospital.

With the robot, healthcare staff can participate virtually in ward rounds or meetings in the patients' rooms. In this way, the healthcare staff can save time on transport and thereby manage to see more patients in the course of a day.

RESULTS

The project was slowed down by problems with IT and networks that could not be resolved. Data for audio and video must be sent encrypted for data security reasons, and it was not possible to create a fast enough connection for this.

Furthermore, a new needs assessment showed that the need for self-driving screens is not that great at New OUH, as there will be video screens in all patients' rooms.

PARTNERS

The project was a collaboration with GoBe Robotics (Blue Ocean Robotics).
